Four birds

Here are four (species of) of birds seen yesterday.

Most Osprey have migrated, yet this juvenile was feeding in a tree along the lakeshore.

The only striking thing about these Wild Turkeys is that while walking across a field, one chose to lift off.

These are a few of  many Pine Siskins feeding on (birch?) catkins.

Derek Kite found this Great Horned Owl near his home.

I love the perspective of the Osprey! Considering what most birds of this type do before they take off I bet you are glad it didn’t decide to leave.

Gale, you are correct: This is the stance of a large bird about to lighten its load before lifting off. Indeed, I thought that was about to happen, but it did not.

Lovely pictures. Only Turkeys lacking here.

Alastair, according to the Royal BC Museum, “Wild Turkeys are found on Vancouver Island, the southern Gulf Islands, in the Okanagan and most commonly, in the Kootenays.” The museum also describes it as “a serious agricultural pest.” For me, however, it is a delightful curiosity.

Lovely, birds being birds make me smile.
