Herein is a collection of birds photographed in November, none of which managed to have a posting of its own (unlike the waxwings and the owl).
This female Harlequin Duck was seen on November 10 at Kokanee Creek. This was odd in that these ducks normally have left the area by late August.
On the other hand, the American Wigeon is a common winter resident. This is a male.
The Hooded Merganser is seen in the winter, but is not common. This is a female.
A female Common Goldeneye is often seen at this time of year.
This juvenile Pied-billed Grebe is probably just passing through the region.
We have dippers year round. What I found interesting about this view was that, rather than flying from one location on the creek to another, it floated on the surface and rowed with its wings.
Dear Alistair:
I love miscellany!
I wonder if you saw my reply to you about Rowan Feast? I would like
a photo of the robin with the berry that I can print at a higher resolution – I’d like
to tuck copies into Christmas cards…4×6…giving you full credit.
Thank you for you!
Tina
Tina, sent.
What a treat to see these birds close up! Thanks, Alistair, interesting to learn about the dipper’s flexibility.
