Flicker chicks

Flicker chicks have hatched. Now, both parents spend their days foraging for insects, swallowing them, returning to the nest, and regurgitating into a chick’s mouth.

“It’s about time you returned. We are hungry.”

“Me first.”

“Look what Daddy brought you.”

“Enjoy.”

The shot of the flicker coming in with its wings fully extended is exquisite. I love the colors and detail. These are all wonderful. It must be fun to watch the parents feed the little ones.

Incredible to see these close ups. I love observing the awesome intelligence in Nature. Thank you Alistair, what a treat also to see the mother’s subtle but exquisite colours.

Christine, I had to be very still to be that close to this skittish bird. The parents share the job of feeding the chicks, but the one in this sequence is the father. The female lacks the red moustache of the male.
