{"id":10730,"date":"2014-06-01T06:36:11","date_gmt":"2014-06-01T13:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=10730"},"modified":"2014-06-01T06:36:11","modified_gmt":"2014-06-01T13:36:11","slug":"awaken-mark-waddle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=10730","title":{"rendered":"Awaken, mark, waddle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Saturday&#8217;s sunrise found me watching an\u00a0otter sleeping on a local dock.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10736\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/otter140531as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Otters are\u00a0short-sighted and I maintained\u00a0a discreet distance, but an\u00a0inadvertent noise woke it.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10737\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/otter140531bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It did not seem to spot me and so set about sniffing to see if any other otters had claimed\u00a0this territory.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10735\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/otter140531cs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The otter then claimed the dock as its own by marking it with\u00a0scent.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10734\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/otter140531es.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Satisfied that others would now recognize this territory as\u00a0occupied, it walked to the edge of the dock. Normally, such\u00a0a\u00a0side view shows a flat, not bulging,\u00a0abdomen.
