Crowds of people have gathered to watch them; a Black Bear helps himself to the fish; mallards await the tasty eggs; gulls stand by, and ravens gorge on fish. Despite the fact that a cornucopia is available, there can\u00a0be acrimony among these\u00a0predators.<\/p>\n<p>So it was that I watched a subadult eagle steal a fish from some ravens. The irony is that a <a title=\"Eagle, fish, raven\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=11413\">recent posting<\/a> showed a raven trying unsuccessfully to take a fish from an eagle. Now, this posting shows an eagle stealing one from ravens.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Kokanee have crowded the stream as the males compete for females.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11463\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/kokanee140815s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A small unkindness\u00a0of ravens is gathering to consume one of the fish.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11462\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/ravens140825s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Overhead, a sub-adult Bald Eagle spots them and sees an opportunity.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11464\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/eagle140825as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Swooping down, it steals the fish, now clutched in its claws, from the ravens.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11461\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/eaglefishraven140825as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ravens scatter amid vociferous complaints.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11460\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/eaglefishraven140825bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There is nothing the ravens can do about it except whine as the eagle flies off with its prize.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11459\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/eaglefishraven140825cs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The redfish (Kokanee, which are landlocked Sockeye Salmon) are spawning again.
