They offer a superb area for observing birds and dragonflies. While wandering through them, I never gave much thought to how they might have formed. That is until Derek Kite pointed out the obvious in his comment to my recent posting, <a title=\"Bank slump\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=12703\">bank slump<\/a>. They are earlier channels of the ever-changing creek, albeit now modified by beaver dams.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A shot of the ponds and marshes shows how they trace older paths of the creek.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12727\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/kokaneeponds150216as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A view from a greater height shows the present path of the creek in the background.
