{"id":13297,"date":"2015-04-08T08:15:11","date_gmt":"2015-04-08T15:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=13297"},"modified":"2015-04-08T08:15:11","modified_gmt":"2015-04-08T15:15:11","slug":"elk-in-forest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=13297","title":{"rendered":"Elk in forest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Doug Thorburn&#8217;s camera has provided me with a recent, but uncommon, view of Elk grazing\u00a0in the forests of the South Selkirks high above Kootenay Lake. <\/p>\n<p>Elk are social animals, but at this time of year, groups of cows, calves, and yearlings live apart from the bulls. This small group seems to contain a cow and a yearling female and male&#8212;the later with unbranched spike antlers.<\/p>\n<p>This is probably a yearling female.
