Some are wading, some floating, some flying. It is the flying ones that are the most difficult to photograph&#8212;they are usually fast and distant. Yesterday, I had three modest successes in taking detailed pictures of flying birds.<\/p>\n<p>A male Hooded Merganser and his son flew low enough over the water to have a good reflection.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13723\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/hoodedmerganser150522as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although this Cliff Swallow was in the sunlight, it was against a very dark background.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13724\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cliffswallow150522s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As I was trying to take\u00a0pictures of Cliff Swallows, a female Osprey landed behind me.
