To this list of gaits, a handful of animals around the world add stotting (also called pronking). The only local one to do so is the mule deer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 2px 6px 4px 6px; margin-top: 4px; margin-left: 8px; width: 260px; float: right; clear: left; color: #555555; background-color: #eeeeee; border: #dddddd 2px solid;\">The Kootenay Lake website offers other pictures of local <a href=\"http:\/\/kootenay-lake.ca\/mammals\/hooves\/muledeer\/index.html\">mule deer<\/a>,\u00a0some of which show stotting.<\/p>\n<p>When the deer stots it looks as though it is riding a pogo stick: all four legs come off the ground simultaneously, it bounces high, then all legs hit the ground simultaneously. It presents a really striking sight.<\/p>\n<p>The first picture shows some mule deer I watched stotting yesterday.
