Yet, it is not seen all that often.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 2px 6px 4px 6px; margin-top: 4px; margin-left: 8px; width: 240px; float: right; clear: left; color: #555555; background-color: #eeeeee; border: #dddddd 2px solid;\">The Kootenay Lake website offers other pictures of local mergansers on the page about <a href=\"http:\/\/kootenay-lake.ca\/birds\/swimmers\/divers\/index.html\">diving ducks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Three merganser species have been seen around the Lake. The commonly seen one is appropriately named the Common Merganser. Much harder to find, and smallest of all, is the Hooded Merganser (the <em>hoodie<\/em>). Only\u00a0rarely\u00a0seen is the Red\u2013breasted Merganser.<\/p>\n<p>I was fortunate yesterday to watch a Hooded Merganser couple on a local pond. Sometimes the male had his hood up, sometimes down.
