It is continued here as <i>eagles feast and fight<\/i>. The final\u00a0posting will show an\u00a0aspect of eagle behaviour that was new to me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Humans retreated and left the beach and fish to the eagles. Many eagles had taken an interest in the fish, but which one would get it? Not unexpectedly, it was the largest adult. Among raptors, females are larger than males, so it is probably a female who flew in and grabbed the fish (a sucker, from the look of it).<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14490\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/eagle150731fs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The eagle quickly set to tearing off bits of flesh and downing\u00a0them.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14488\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/eagle150731hs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Abruptly, the eagle hid its fish under its body and made agitated\u00a0calls to something overhead.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14496\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/eagle150731is.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This somewhat blurry shot shows the problem: a challenger for the prize.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14489\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/eagle150731gs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The two eagles skirmished, but the first to arrive was larger and it prevailed.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14492\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/eagle150731sFFG.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first (larger, female?) eagle triumphed. The challenger accepted the hierarchy and waited patiently for scraps.
