This year\u00a0the title had to be revised.<\/p>\n<p>Yellow-bellied Marmots hibernate through the winter and emerge when it becomes warm. In <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=4482\">2012<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=7382\">2013<\/a>, I noticed\u00a0my first marmot during the last third of March. In <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=10011\">2014<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=13076\">2015<\/a>, it was the middle third of March. This year it was the last third of February (the 24<sup>th<\/sup>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, these observations are made casually; I don&#8217;t go out of my way to be systematic. Yet, there does seem to be a trend whereby emergence has moved earlier by over a month.<\/p>\n<p>This marmot tried to attract my attention.
