{"id":17456,"date":"2016-06-09T07:45:28","date_gmt":"2016-06-09T14:45:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=17456"},"modified":"2016-06-09T07:46:06","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T14:46:06","slug":"chickadees-nest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=17456","title":{"rendered":"Chickadee&#8217;s nest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-top: -54px; margin-left:16px; float:right;\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/yellowbelliedsapsucker160608s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17502\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had been\u00a0watching a sapsucker surveying its trees (image right) when I realized that there was something even more interesting in the vicinity: Chestnut-backed Chickadees were ferrying grubs to their\u00a0cavity nest. Although the chicks have yet to be seen, the feeding behaviour was unmistakable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This picture is a composite of two shots of the same chickadee first bringing a grub to its nest, and then, flying off to fetch more. Parenthood is\u00a0an unending job of providing food and comfort.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-17469\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/chestnutbackedchickadee160608as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The previous day had been sunny. I initially thought that there was only a single bird flying in to feed a mate that was incubating eggs. This speculation was abandoned when both mates were seen coming and going with food.
