However, for years now, I have only seen them higher in the mountains. I don&#8217;t know what is going on, but maybe the high elevations are their normal home and they only expand their altitude range during a temporary\u00a0population explosion. Have there been more chipmunks seen this year?<\/p>\n<p>During supper on the deck, an unexpected guest arrived: a Yellow-pine Chipmunk.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-18010\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/chipmunk160724as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wanting to be hospitable, we offered it popcorn, which it ate with enthusiasm.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-18007\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/chipmunk160724cs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It then availed itself of the water bowl set out for a canine visitor.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-18008\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/chipmunk160724ds.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Maybe it is time to make some more popcorn.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-18009\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/chipmunk160724bs2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Surely my most unexpected observation of this year was made last evening when a Chipmunk crashed an outdoor dinner party.
