He saw it again last week and wrote about both sightings: \u201cI had grave doubts concerning his potential survival, given his scrawny appearance last year. \u00a0He is still small, but appears to have a nice coat, and some extra weight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 2px 6px 4px 6px; margin-top: 4px; margin-left: 8px; width: 400px; float: right; clear: left; color: #555555; background-color: #eeeeee; border: #dddddd 2px solid;\"><strong>Spirit Bear <\/strong>(see also <a href=\"http:\/\/kootenay-lake.ca\/mammals\/carnivores\/bbears\/index.html\">Black Bears<\/a>)<br \/>\n\u2022 a Spirit Bear is a white Black Bear anywhere in the Province<br \/>\n\u2022 the white Black Bear\u00a0<small>(Spirit Bear)<\/small> is protected from hunting<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0<em>kermode<\/em> <small>DOES NOT<\/small> imply white; most\u00a0<em>kermode<\/em> are black<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0<em>kermode<\/em> <small>DOES NOT<\/small> mean Spirit Bear<\/p>\n<p>The Spirit Bear is a Provincial symbol. It is merely the somewhat uncommon white colour phase of the ordinary Black Bear. Some propagandists would have you believe that such bears are only found on the North Coast and are synonymous with the word kermode. Such claims are nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>The Spirit Bear is found throughout BC, and we have our own here in the mountains south of Nelson.
