While I photographed\u00a0many species of birds, it wasn&#8217;t until I returned to the comfort of my home that I managed a\u00a0good shot, and that was taken &#8212; gulp &#8212; looking through\u00a0a window.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Varied Thrush is a skittish bird. While it is related to the robin, it lacks the robin&#8217;s\u00a0sangfroid and will bolt at the slightest perceived threat, which it interprets as\u00a0the sight of anything at all. Consequently, the best pictures of it I have ever managed have been taken using\u00a0my home or car as a blind.<\/p>\n<p>The Varied Thrush, a striking bird in black and orange, is a contrast to our monochromatic winter.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-19265\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/variedthrush161231s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; I went birding today\u00a0&#8212; well animal-ing, for I also saw an otter.
