Indeed, I had\u00a0only seen a Short-eared Owl once before and that was in 2012\u00a0on the grasslands of Kokanee Creek Park (<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=6550\">owl wins<\/a>). This time I got a better picture.<\/p>\n<p>Short-eared Owls compete with Northern Harriers for mice and voles found in grasslands. Not surprisingly, they are not buddies. When spotted, the one below was being chased by two\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=19714\">harriers<\/a>, but it then looped\u00a0around behind and chased them.
