Insects,\u00a0usually plentiful, have been sparse &#8212; but not absent.<\/p>\n<p>In a field of dandelions,\u00a0both hover flies and solitary bees (but, not social bees) flew from flower to flower seeking nectar. It was fairly easy to take pictures of them on the dandelions, but I sought\u00a0shots of them flying between the flowers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A mining bee became covered with\u00a0pollen as it worked the flowers.\u00a0<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-20546\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/miningbee170517s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pied hover fly is common throughout\u00a0the Northern Hemisphere. It is a staple of summer flower watching.
