It was a pleasure to be able to watch these magnificent Trumpeter Swans; Yet, it was a disappointment that once again, they were Trumpeters rather than Tundras.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two species of swans migrate through this region &#8212; indeed through all of the southern interior of the Province: Trumpeter Swans and Tundra Swans. If we go back three decades, most of the migrating swans were Tundras. At that time, one yearned to see a few Trumpeters. Now most of the migrants are Trumpeters, and now one yearns to see a few Tundras.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What has brought about the transition? I do not know. But, it remains: I now fervently watch for Tundra Swans.<\/p>\n<p>Three (of seven swans seen were) magnificent Trumpeter Swans swim across the water.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22447\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/trumpeterswan171212as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One left the group and then flew past me.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22444\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/trumpeterswan171212ds.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After it alighted, it realized it was being watched, and barked its displeasure.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22446\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/trumpeterswan171212bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It then drifted away across the water.<br \/>\n <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22445\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/trumpeterswan171212cs2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Seeing seven swans yesterday was both a pleasure and a disappointment.
