As such, they have become a symbol of the Lake, with both a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nauticapedia.ca\/Gallery\/Osprey_2000.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ferry<\/a>\u00a0and a <a href=\"http:\/\/ospreycommunityfoundation.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">community foundation<\/a> named after them.<\/p>\n<p>Ospreys feast on fish caught live. But, just try to capture a picture of an osprey lifting a fish from the Lake.\u00a0The problem is that it happens amazingly quickly somewhere over a rather large area.\u00a0 I have only managed to record the event\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=14802\">once before<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, this morning&#8217;s shot of a (male) osprey lifting a (male) Kokanee from the Lake is one of my most satisfying shots of the year.<\/p>\n<p>An Osprey and its catch.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-24434\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/osprey180818as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The West Arm of Kootenay Lake has an unusually large warm-season population of ospreys.
