They are mainly, but not entirely birds. It is interesting that other than <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=25646\">squirrels<\/a>, and deer (that <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=25694\">buck<\/a> has now lost its antlers), I have seen no mammals this month. However, there was ample evidence of their presence through their tracks in the snow: squirrels, racoons, mice, voles, hares, and deer.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/ebird.org\/barchart?byr=1900&amp;eyr=2018&amp;bmo=1&amp;emo=12&amp;r=CA-BC-CK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ebird<\/a> (which tracks such things) there are no previous observations of Snow Buntings in Februarys. Here is a flock seen on February 25<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25778\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/snowbunting190225s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Northern Shrike was seen hunting.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25779\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/shrike190225s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have only seen Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches once <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=22109\">before<\/a>.\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25780\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/graycrownedrosyfinch190225as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A little more common (but not much so) is the Pacific Wren.\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25781\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/pacificwren190226s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is another view of that <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=25767\">Red-tailed Hawk<\/a> landing in a tree\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25782\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/redtailedhawk190225bs2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=25618\">January goulash<\/a>,\u00a0 I noted Trumpeter Swans on the West Arm. They were still there on February 23, but had left two days later.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25783\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/trumpeterswans190223s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The month has been cold and windy.
