Fish frequently jump from the water to consume it. The fish in this picture is the shadowy presence that has missed the mayfly (and its reflection) just above the surface of the water.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27073\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/mayfly190721bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Birds pick emerging mayflies from the air. This is a Chipping Sparrow. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27074\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/chippingsparrow190721s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And this is a Yellow-rumped Warbler. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27076\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/yellowrumpedwarbler190721s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yet some of the mayflies do survive to mate before they die.
