One of these is the White-crowned Sparrow. Wintering to the south, it breeds here in the summer. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27017\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/whitecrownedsparrow190713s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another mountain bird, at least in the summer, is the Townsend&#8217;s Solitaire. Although it eats berries in the valleys during the winter, in the summer it switches to mainly insects.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27019\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/townsendssolitaire190713as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The solitaire flies off after an insect.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27018\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/townsendssolitaire190713bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also seen in the mountains is a male Lazuli Bunting. That may be a female it is chasing.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27016\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/lazulibunting190713s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Cherry-faced Meadowhawk hunts insects from the ground.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27162\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cherryfacedmeadowhawk190712s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Two fawns frolic in a field.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27163\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/whitetaileddeer190724bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another summer resident, the Willow Flycatcher does just that: It hunts bugs, often from a willow.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27165\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/willowflycatcher190724as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This Cedar Waxwing looks as if it is going after the seeds of the common tansy.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27166\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cedarwaxwing190724as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was struck by the colour of this large beetle found on the beach.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/rubybeetle190709s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27182\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Double-crested Cormorant often swims low in the water.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27167\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cormorant190724s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A painted turtle is on a log in a pond, and all are covered in duckweed.
