{"id":2775,"date":"2011-09-04T08:57:33","date_gmt":"2011-09-04T15:57:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=2775"},"modified":"2013-04-15T07:51:42","modified_gmt":"2013-04-15T14:51:42","slug":"bethany%e2%80%99s-marmot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=2775","title":{"rendered":"Bethany\u2019s marmot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have never managed to photograph a Hoary Marmot\u2014the <a title=\"Marmot\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=2506\">Yellow\u2013bellied Marmot<\/a>, yes, but the Hoary Marmot, no. So, when Bethany Arndt showed me the pictures she had taken on a hike into Kokanee Glacier Park, I asked to post them and she agreed.<\/p>\n<p>In regions, such as this, where both species of marmot flourish, they are separated by altitude\u2014Yellow-bellied in valleys, and Hoary in mountains. The Hoary Marmot inhabits scree slopes adjacent to the abundant meadows of vegetation upon which it feeds.<\/p>\n<p>Away from humans, the Hoary Marmot is wary, but along hiker&#8217;s trails, it will approach and seek a portion of the hiker&#8217;s trail mix.<\/p>\n<p>A Hoary Marmot sits in a field of <a title=\"Alpine mops\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=2595\">Western Anemone<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2776\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/marmot110829BAa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A mendicant marmot makes for close pictures.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2777\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/marmot110829BAb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Bethany Arndt&#8217;s pictures are used with permission.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have never managed to photograph a Hoary Marmot\u2014the Yellow\u2013bellied Marmot, yes, but the Hoary Marmot, no.
