Yet, notwithstanding the skunk seen <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=28222\">earlier<\/a>, most of the creatures I see are avian. Hiding in the forest is a White-tailed Doe in its winter pelage.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28236\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/whitetaileddeer200221s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is one of two Ruffed Grouse that frequent my yard.\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28235\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ruffedgrouse200208s2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Bald Eagle added a branch to the pair&#8217;s nest. Eagles have a compulsion to add material each year, and sometimes this results in a nest so massive that it topples the tree.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28230\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/eagle200224s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Song Sparrow is a common bird, but drabness renders it inconspicuous. It deserves to be celebrated now and then. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/songsparrow200225s2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28258\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The robin is also common, yet has a greater cachet and so does not require the same acknowledgment as the Song Sparrow. Here are four robins in a larch. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/robin200225s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28261\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This has been an really good winter for seeing Trumpeter Swans. Indeed, many pictures I have taken of them have just been discarded. Yet, I rather like this shot taken in the dim light of dawn.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28234\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/trumpeterswan200212s2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is a male goldfinch in non-breeding plumage. The black feathers on the finch&#8217;s head are a sign of pending spring as it moults into its breeding plumage of a black cap and a yellow body. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/goldfinch200226as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28273\" \/><\/p>\n<p> And this cutie is a female goldfinch. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/goldfinch200226bs2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28294\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This is a collection of images from this February, none of which has had a posting of its own.
