But, just try to find one: it has camouflage colouring, it is primarily active at night; it nests unobtrusively high in trees.<\/p>\n<p>My favourite observing location for a Great-Horned nest is, for the moment, interdicted by covid-19. This will pass, but it was nice to have been told of another local nest. Yesterday, I visited it in rain and failing light. And then again this morning.<\/p>\n<p>A Great horned Owl parent prepares to feed its expectant chick.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28748\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/greathornedowl200506bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And offers, what appears to be, the remains of a small bird.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28747\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/greathornedowl200506as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When visited the next morning, the parent was on a branch and the chick was on the nest.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28746\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/greathornedowl200507as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The Great Horned Owl is billed as widespread and common throughout North America.
