Indeed, it takes some effort to locate even a single population. But, it is assuredly (but rather sparsely) found around Kootenay Lake. And when located, one&#8217;s calendar will say: it is mid July.<\/p>\n<p>However, when found, the Giant Helleborine does grow in a profusion of many dozens of plants and hundreds of flowers.<\/p>\n<p>The Giant Helleborine grows in wet areas. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29185\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gianthelleborine20200711bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It grows on stalks containing multiple flowers.\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29184\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gianthelleborine20200711as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mycorrhizal fungi supply nutrients that the Giant Helleborine cannot obtain otherwise.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29186\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gianthelleborine20200711cs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The Giant Helleborine is a wild orchid that grows in western North America.
