Usually it is well offshore. Today it was a bit closer and I was able to watch it rise out of the water and shake its wings.<\/p>\n<p>It is September and this Common Loon has moulted from its breeding plumage (which can be seen last <a title=\"Loons, merganser\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=2086\">July<\/a>) to its non-breeding plumage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2972\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/loon110923as21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the early morning, I often see a loon wander by.
