No such luck &#8212; the word, torpidity, came to mind. The yellow-bellied marmots would watch the watchers, but they barely budged.<\/p>\n<p>If you ignore the marmot&#8217;s size, this big male looks almost leonine.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-30310\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/marmot210331as.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This scene appears about as it did to the naked eye. Yet, the shallow depth of field of the telephoto lens meant that only one marmot could be in sharp focus at a time.
