{"id":3062,"date":"2011-10-07T20:08:14","date_gmt":"2011-10-08T03:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=3062"},"modified":"2011-10-07T20:12:21","modified_gmt":"2011-10-08T03:12:21","slug":"merlin-still-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=3062","title":{"rendered":"Merlin still here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you who read my account of the <a title=\"Castlegar hawk watch\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=2989\">Castlegar hawk watch<\/a> may have assumed that all raptors left the area in the fall. No, I was describing raptors from the north of here that flew over our area.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, some raptors have left the area. I probably saw my last Osprey this morning, and Turkey Vultures are gone. Some, however, stay year round. Two of those are the Bald Eagle and the Merlin&#8212;both of which I saw yesterday. The pictures below are of a Merlin seen in Kokanee Creek Park.<\/p>\n<p>A Merlin is a falcon which feasts on small birds.
