And this includes insects.<\/p>\n<p>A damselfly is a common feature of lakeside living in the summer. But, not this one. When damselflies perch, most species hold their wings parallel to their bodies. The exception is a small group called the spread-wing damselflies. Here is one of them perched.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31111\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/spreadwingdamselfly210906s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The White Pelican is a bit of an oddity around here. Yet, they do turn up\u00a0 now and then around the Lake, usually in flocks. This one is on its own.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31114\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/pelican210906s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Great Blue Heron is a staple around the Lake. I do marvel at their display of wing feathers. This one is landing on the edge of the river.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31112\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/heron210906s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I saved the best for the last. Ospreys will soon migrate to Central America.
