The red eye does not appear until after the first year.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32079\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/redeyedvireo220813s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is always pleasant to see a Robin with a mouthful of worms.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32078\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/robin220812s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This cluster of millimetre-sized eggs was on the beach in a deer&#8217;s footprint. They lasted for a few days until something ate them. But, what would have they become?<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32076\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/eggs220822s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A eight-spotted skimmer (dragonfly) is a common feature of a summer&#8217;s day.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-32075\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/eightspottedskimmer220821s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ubiquitous red squirrel is a noisy character. It lives among us, but regularly complains about our presence. This one is chewing me out for walking beside my home.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32071\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/squirrel220822s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A juvenile Great Blue Heron is not only catching minnows, it is also objecting to being watched. The hint is the wag of its tail which was rapidly moved back and forth. It kept this up for a few fish catches but finally ignored my presence and just went about its business.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32074\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/heron220825s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I do not know what this Loon is saying with this display. Sometimes this means go away, but I was distant and probably unnoticed. <br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32073\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/loon220812s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is an Osprey carrying sticks and brush. But it is the end of August, so there is no nest to be built. Up until now, it has brought fish to its nest for the chicks, but now it is trying to persuade its chicks to get out and catch fish on their own for it soon will migrate. The sticks are a message that says &#8220;the molly-codling is over&#8221;.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32072\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/osprey220824b2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I rarely am this close to a Turkey Vulture.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32085\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/turkeyvulture220826bs3.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From toad amplexus at the beginning of July, through eggs, to tadpoles, and now toadlets, this tiny fellow was migrating across the beach.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32083\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/toadlet220830s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is late August and the ghost pipe (previously listed as Indian pipe) is starting to turn black.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32081\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/indianpaint220812s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My favourite picture of August, was this White-tailed Deer cautiously looking out of a field of overgrown grass.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32082\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/whitetaileddeer220820s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This is a collection of August\u2019s pictures that lacked a posting of their own.\u00a0 This strange looking bird is just a juvenile Robin.
