{"id":32146,"date":"2022-10-07T14:19:47","date_gmt":"2022-10-07T21:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=32146"},"modified":"2022-10-07T14:19:47","modified_gmt":"2022-10-07T21:19:47","slug":"grizzly-bear-feast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=32146","title":{"rendered":"Grizzly bear feast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On October 3rd, I visited B.C.&#8217;s Bute Inlet to watch grizzly bears fattening up for hibernation by eating freshly caught salmon. The visit was during the spawning of chum salmon, so the grizzlies were predating a different species of salmon than those found around Kootenay Lake. I watched about a dozen bears catch and eat salmon. Here are two.<\/p>\n<p>A female grizzly bear catches a salmon in the shallows of a river flowing into Bute Inlet. The fish is still very much alive and is struggling.\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32148\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/grizzly221003as1.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bear carries the struggling fish to the shore, or at least to the really shallow waters.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32147\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/grizzly221003as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The grizzly lays the now dead (?) fish at the water&#8217;s edge. Meanwhile, another bear approaches.
