While they tolerated my presence when I took pictures, it wasn&#8217;t until the next day that I finally figured out what they were doing there. They were feeding on the carcass of a skunk along the beach but chose to perch on a piling and a dock as they waited out some competition from a raven.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One Turkey Vulture spent its time on a piling.\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32595\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/turkeyvulture230621as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The other spent its time on the railing of an adjacent dock.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32599\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/turkeyvulture230621bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The raven that shared the carcass with them stopped by and was eyed, but ignored.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32596\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/turkeyvulture230621es.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bellies full, the vultures chose to fly off. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32598\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/turkeyvulture230621cs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s away.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32597\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/turkeyvulture230621ds.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Two adult Turkey Vultures visited the waters near my home.
