But now I was expecting to see the Spotted Sandpiper. But, no, there was a Solitary Sandpiper, probably on its way north. It spent a long time feeding near the shore.<\/p>\n<p>A Solitary Sandpiper feeds in the shallows. (It has a leaf temporarily caught on its foot.)<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33283\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/solitarysandpiper240428s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But, we did see a Killdeer &#8212; indeed there were two of them mating. She has lifted her tail and he has lowered his to allow their cloaca to make contact.
