Although it is a large animal, even if you roam those mountains, you are unlikely to see it for it inhabits the cliffs where other animals fear to tread. Indeed, those cliffs are its primary defence against many common predators. It is not really a goat, but a species of bovid sometimes called a goat-antelope. It is related to the European chamois.<\/p>\n<p>But, we have mountain goats around here, and now and then I see them.<\/p>\n<p>This mountain goat is supping on sparse vegetation part way up a rather large cliff.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33798\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/mountaingoat240915as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were actually four of them.
