It was well outside its normal range. It was also in its breeding plumage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I have seen the Cattle Egret once before, but a long way from here. It was (appropriately) feeding on cattle&#8217;s parasites. I start with an earlier picture because it is seen here in its non-breeding plumage.<\/p>\n<p>A Cattle Egret on cattle in Maui in November 2016 lacks its breeding plumage.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18956\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/cattleegret161110as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Cattle Egret in Nelson in breeding plumage was first spotted by Sachi Snively.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34576\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/cattleegret250606bs2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It spreads its wings in peparation to flying.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34579\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/cattleeget250606as4.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And takes to the air, but does not go far.
