This is the nest that in April I briefly observed the fresh osprey couple mating acrobatically for the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=35522\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first time<\/a>. They now had two chicks, not just <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=35664\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one<\/a> as I had observed before. Furthermore, one chick had already fledged. The other was to fledge the next day.<\/p>\n<p>Two chicks (white spotted wings) and an adult (dark wings) are present, and one chick has fledged.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35772\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/osprey260816s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The adults repeatedly tried to persuade the remaining chick to fledge by no longer feeding it, but they instead brought in nest material.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35773\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/osprey260817as2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the last chick fledged.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35774\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/osprey260817bs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; It was happenstance that I watched what had been a favourite osprey nest at an odd angle two days ago.
