The first picture shows, what I think is the same bird.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, about 700 metres away, I show another (the same?) heron that was confined to capturing many rather small things just to get enough to eat (Sept. 25).<\/p>\n<p>On Aug.19, the day after capturing a large Kokanee, this heron resumed its search for food.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35872\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/heron260919s.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After quietly watching the water, the heron plunged its bill deep into a pond.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35876\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/heron260925as.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But, it missed and had to blow out the water it had sucked in.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35875\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/heron260925bs2.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it did catch something, such as this slug.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35874\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/heron260925cs.jpg\" alt=\"\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After repeated attempts, it caught (and ate) a small fish. These attempts went on for a long time as the heron sought enough food to eat.
