Many species of birds were seen, but only a few of them are represented in my pictures.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing we saw on the walk was a group of buffleheads, one of which\u00a0obligingly\u00a0set the tone for the rest of the day (right): <em>expose yourself to nature.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To the pictures taken on the walk, I have added a few others taken shortly before and after.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although ospreys were seen on the walk, these ones building a nest were seen beforehand.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4859\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/ospreys120413s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As were these two Tree Swallows.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4858\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/treeswallows120413s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seen from Beaver Creek, these four mountain goats were a bit too distant for\u00a0portraiture.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4867\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/mountaingoats120414.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was the first Spotted Towhee I had seen.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4857\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/spottedtowhee120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the first Western Meadowlark.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4870\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/meadowlark120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To be expected on such a walk was a squirrel,<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4874\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/squirrel120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>as were, for this time of year, glacier\u00a0lilies.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4873\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/glacierlillies120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Less expected was a chipmunk.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4872\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/chipmunk120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the best picture of a shrike I have ever taken, but it nice to see one even in the distance.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4877\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/shrike120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We looked for a bluebird throughout the walk, but only saw one at the very end.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4878\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/bluebird120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The last two birds were seen following the walk: a Turkey Vulture,<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4876\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/turkeyvulture120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and an American Kestrel.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4875\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/kestrel120414s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Michael McMann led a group from the West Kootenay Naturalists on a walk around Beaver Creek Park on Saturday.
