Today, I was merely running\u00a0errands, but packed my camera out of habit.<\/p>\n<p>Unexpectedly, I saw an owl and three woodpeckers: Northern Pygmy Owl, Northern Flicker (a woodpecker), Pileated Woodpecker, and Downy Woodpecker. There was also a Bald Eagle, but I was too busy with the more interesting Downy to bother with it.<\/p>\n<p>Moral: pack a camera.<\/p>\n<p>This is hardly the best picture of a Northern Pygmy Owl I have taken, but it was the first since <a title=\"Pygmy Owl\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=1064\">March, 2011<\/a>, so I was pleased.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6743\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pygmyowl121127s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The owl may be infrequent, but the flicker is common. \u00a0I include today&#8217;s picture only to complete the set and mark this as a three-woodpecker day.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6739\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/flicker121127s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Pileated Woodpecker is our largest woodpecker. This male has been drilling holes in the tree looking for bugs that might have bedded down for the winter.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6740\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pileatedwoodpecker121127s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In striking contrast to the pileated is our smallest woodpecker, the Downy. It presented me with the best views of the day, so I show two of them.
