Last Sunday’s (January 20th<\/sup>) jaunt around the Creston Flats produced a possible<\/del>\u00a0(now confirmed)\u00a0Harlan’s Hawk near Wynndel<\/a>. But, there were other interesting things to see. Some of the pictures below were taken by Derek Kite, some by me.<\/p>\n

The first half-dozen images show predators; the rest show vegetarians.<\/p>\n

Derek managed the best action shots. Here is another of his Red-tailed Hawks in flight.

and one I took of the Red-tailed Hawk on its favourite local perch: the crossbar of a utility pole.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Derek caught a kestrel in flight,
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

and a coyote hunting (for voles) in a field.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

This is my sub-adult Bald Eagle hunting beside a river,
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

and a Northern Shrike hunting from a power wire.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

A Eurasian Collared Dove seems to have just been resting on a wire as it normally eats seeds.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Finally, a pair of Horned Larks were scouring by the side of the road. First the female,
\n\"hornedlark130120s\"<\/p>\n

then the male.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n
