{"id":7601,"date":"2013-05-02T06:59:49","date_gmt":"2013-05-02T13:59:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=7601"},"modified":"2013-05-02T09:18:29","modified_gmt":"2013-05-02T16:18:29","slug":"early-yard-flowers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=7601","title":{"rendered":"Early yard flowers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of course my yard has dandelions.<\/p>\n<p>But, these pictures show three other flowers, all of them wild, that have volunteered to hang out in the\u00a0vicinity\u00a0of my house. By merely knowing these species, a botanist\u00a0could deduce much about my habitat.<\/p>\n<p>Each spring, I find a dozen or so stream violets in the same area.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7604\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/streamviolet130501s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The forget-me-not is a small, and variable wildflower. Most have blue petals, but the colour can range through pink to white. There is one pinkish flower in this group. Most references say the centre is yellow. So, why do I often see some with a white centre?<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7603\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/forgetmenot130501s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The skunk cabbage is not everyone&#8217;s favourite wildflower, but it is part of the local landscape.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7602\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/skunkcabbage130501s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Of course my yard has dandelions.
