But, when I searched, I could not find it. That is, until a dipper showed me where to look.<\/p>\n<p>Usually when a dipper catches something edible, it\u00a0downs it quickly. This time, it did not. Obviously, the food was destined for its chick. I then watched the bird fly up under the bridge, and so finally knew where to look for the nest.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8255\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/dipper130630as.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The nest was\u00a0unexpectedly big and had a hole in its side. While one could not get close to it&#8212;to try to do so would be to risk drowning in the\u00a0raging\u00a0creek&#8212;with binoculars, one could make out the bill of a chick in that opening.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8254\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/dippernest130630as.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The adult flew back with more food.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8253\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/dippernest130630bs.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And delivered it to the chick.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8252\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/dippernest130630cs.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; I had been told there was a dipper&#8217;s nest under the highway bridge over a local creek.
