This follows the already posted <a title=\"Pink Mountain Heather\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=8514\">Pink Mountain Heather<\/a> and an earlier one on\u00a0<a title=\"Alpine wildflowers\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=8524\">alpine wildflowers<\/a>. While a number of other species were seen, these three postings provide a taste.<\/p>\n<p>Although wildflowers are found on the mountainside, rather than on the windswept top of Idaho Peak (elevation, 2282 metres), the stage is set with a picture from the top looking down on Slocan Lake (542 metres). The lakeside villages of Silverton (centre left) and New Denver (centre right) are far below. Urban and flatland dwellers might be struck both by the clarity of the air, and by the other mountains, some of which rise another 500 metres above me. This is what the world is like here: high mountains, clear lakes, clean air.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8553 alignnone\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/slocanlake130730s2.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A lupine is being visited by a pollen-packing bumble bee.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8552 alignnone\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/lupinebee130730s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0arrow-leaf ragwort can be seen from the valleys to the high mountains.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8547\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/arrowleafragwort130730s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The rocky-ledge penstemon (also called the oval-leaved penstemon) only grows above about 1200 metres.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8544\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/penstemonellipticus130730s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/>\u00a0A hover fly is visiting a mountain arnica.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8545\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/mountainarnica130730s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0bladder campion is not the most colourful of flowers.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8549\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bladdercampion130730s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the\u00a0silky phacelia.
