So unlike the <a title=\"Migrant birds\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=9026\">migrants<\/a> of the last posting, these not-so-special birds were shot during fleeting moments between showers. They are presented in the order taken.<\/p>\n<p>Bufflehead Ducks are back on the Lake for the winter. The female is on the lower left and the male is on the right.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9043\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/buffleheads131112s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is striking how many Dippers can be seen on local creeks, and even along the lakeshore, at this time of year. This one is peering under the water for comestibles.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9042\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/dipper131112s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mallards abound year round. Judging by the lollygagging, their lives must not be all that difficult.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9044\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/mallards131112s.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another omnipresent bird is the Song Sparrow. This one is feasting on Rose Hips.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9045\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/songsparrow131112as.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, one normally identifies a bird by its shape and plumage.
