It hardly gets any better than this. Yesterday, upon seeing this rare celebrity in town, Dirk Pidcock, an enthusiastic local fan exclaimed, &#8220;Indeed it is a very special day! &#8230;\u00a0After years of longing and searching, &#8230; I see a Great Gray for the first time this morning&#8230;.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pidcock&#8217;s pictures of this celebrity owl were posted <a title=\"Great Gray Owl\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/?p=9814\">yesterday<\/a>. Today, I went to see it myself, and it quickly became clear that this celebrated owl was in full endorsement mode as it drew attention to local businesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I spotted the Great Gray promoting a business that I never did recognize. This is clearly the downside of going with a really big-name celebrity: the mere presence of the owl has eclipsed the endorsement it offers.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9822\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/greatgrayowl140214bs.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was not the case when the Great Gray moved to endorsing the <a href=\"http:\/\/kaslohotel.com\" target=\"_blank\">Kaslo Hotel<\/a>; I have had a few meals there.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9823\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"greatgrayowl140214cs\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/greatgrayowl140214cs.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alas, the mere presence of a Great Gray Owl in Kaslo outshone the businesses it (seemingly) promoted.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9824\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/greatgrayowl140214as.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is, after all, the celebrity owl.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9825\" onclick=\"return false\" onmousedown=\"return false\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kootenay-lake.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/greatgrayowl140214ds2.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; It seems that the Kaslo Chamber of Commerce has hired the ultimate celebrity endorsement: a Great Gray Owl has arrived to promote local businesses.
