Gull migration

This is the season when birds that have summered to our north begin to flow across our region as they migrate south.

This flock, migrating down the Lake, comprises California Gulls.

  1. We get California and Ring-billled ever year at this time, stopping off for the Kokanee spawn in Wilson Creek on Slocan Lake. They rest on an anchored log in the lake and continue to send scouts past our place on the lake. They go to the mouth of the creek and probably up it then return to the flock to report if it is time for the flock to head into the creek. (This may be a bit of interpretation on my part but they are here every year for the Kokanee run.)

This is an amazing picture, looking at it, I can feel I would like to be one of them to enjoy the freedom and the companionship that bring them together.
