Yesterday, with the Kokanee moving up local creeks to spawn, I posted a picture of a heron hunting by the creek. Today, it plunged after a Kokanee.
A Great Blue Heron strikes at a Kokanee. Alas, it failed to catch one.

I have never seen such blue colour in a “blue” heron; they always appear grey to me or perhaps ever-so-slightly blue. Thank you for showing me the splendid and, judging by the background, true colour of the blue heron.
Tom, I have often wondered about this. I have seen some that are distinctly greyish and some that are distinctly blueish. Apparently the balance shifts somewhat with the age of the heron, but it is a mystery to me.
