Some animals have rather regular habits: Birds turn up at the feeder about the same time each morning; I have seen a beaver swim by at about the same time each evening.
For the second day in a row, a coyote has wandered along the snow-covered shore at about 5 pm. The light was failing and the coyote was distant, but this time I managed a picture. It looked back at me as if to say: I know you are watching.
The five-o’clock coyote
Have you heard of a Coyote’s breakfast? It’s a drink of water and a look around….
The Sinixt called him “sin-ka-lip” (sinn-kaa-leep) the shape-shifter.
Eileen, I had not heard of this. What ever happened to coyote, the trickster?
He or she reminded me of the famous character, “Five O’clock Charlie”, from the TV series MASH one of my all-time favourites.
Ken, that is a new one on me. I must have too young (or too distracted) to have been aware of it.
Alistair, you may recall that coyotes were very much part of my childhood in Trinity Valley, north of Lumby. I very much appreciate your photo. What a nice, warm coat this one has!
Jim, I am a fan of coyotes, although I must admit that one seems to have done in my cat. In doing so, it apparently has protected innumerable birds—not an unreasonable tradeoff.
